DANCKAERTS, JASPER. [1679–1680] One of two explorers from a dissident Catholic sect, the Labinists, who visited North America from 1679 to 1680 to scout out a potential colony. An offi cer of the Long Island Historical Society found the manuscript in a bookstore in Amsterdam. The manuscript is currently the property of the Long Island Historical Society. Published as Journal of Jasper Danckaerts, 1679–1680, edited by Bartlett Burleigh James and J. Franklin Jameson. New York, Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1913.
