HOOGES, ANTONY DE

HOOGES, ANTONY DE. [1641] A young Dutchman who became secretary and business manager for the settlement of Rensselaerwyk. His entries recount a stormy voyage from the Netherlands to New Amsterdam (conditions seemed particularly lethal to the livestock on board). Diary may be found in the Van Rensselaer Bowler Manuscripts. Entries here published in Narratives of New Netherlands: 1609–1664, edited by J. Franklin Jameson. New York, Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1909.
