FITCH, JABEZ. [1776–1777] Continental soldier from the 17th Connecticut Regiment. He was captured by the British in New York and held, with officers, on a prison ship and under house arrest elsewhere. His journal records that time spent in captivity. Published as The New-York Diary of Lieutenant Jabez Fitch of the 17th (Connecticut) Regiment from August 22, 1776, to December 15, 1777. Copyright 1954 by W.H.H. Sabine.
