HESSIAN [ANONYMOUS]. [1776] From the letter diary of an unidentified Hessian mercenary who participated in the British assault upon Long Island. These entries appeared in the magazine Die Neuesten Staatsbegebenheiten published at Frankfort-on-the-Main in 1777. Found excerpted in The Hessians and the Other German Auxilliaries of Great Britain in the Revolutionary War. By Edward J. Lowell, New York, Harper & Bros., 1884. (Lowell posits that the account was written by an officer of the chasseurs, either Major von Prueschenk or Lt. Von Grothausen.)
