IRVING, PIERRE MUNRO. [1859] The nephew of Washington Irving, to whom he refers as “Uncle” or “W.I.” Pierre attended his uncle as the latter struggled with asthma and depression at his Hudson River estate, Sunnydale. These entries are rich in medical detail. Moreover, they recount the elder Irving’s heroic work on a biography of George Washington, finishing only hours before his death. These entries are found in manuscript at the Berg Collection of the New York Public Library.
